THE YEARS HAVE FLOWN BY
The years have flown by
Yet it seems so long ago
That I first saw your face
And my heart began to know
At first it was just a glimpse
Of all you would become to me
But the years have peeled away the veil
And allowed me to more fully see
Your heart is made of pure gold
Your devotion to others supreme
You constantly do without
So others can enjoy their dream
You are so selfless, so kind
So willing to give all you own
Never thinking of what you need
Your own needs, you just postpone
I can still remember our first kiss
Standing at your back door
My heart raced then and races still
When I realize now I love you so much more
You’ve put up with me
Through all these years
Willingly taking all the bad
Often bringing you to tears
It had to be tempting
To dump me along the way
But that was never who you are
Despite me, you meant to stay
Even with all my baggage
Luggage so heavy to bear
You loved me still
Changing me by how much you care
If someday it’s my lot
To be able to cross the veil
It will be your face I’m searching for
And all that will entail
You’ve gone without
With never a complaint
If only I can someday become
Like my love, my wife, my saint
I wrote this to express my feelings for my eternal companion, my wife, Jo
