THE BATTLEGROUND

There never was a time

when the battle was not waged

there never was a time

when one could not be engaged

For neutral was not a choice

between the evil and the good

for in one camp or the other

each chose where they stood

Not with swords and spears

and armor were they arrayed

but between falsehood and truth

were the souls of mankind swayed

For most of God’s children the call rang true

they acclaimed the great plan with mighty cheer

but there was one who could not accept the choice

in the face of truth he could only sneer

The bitterness he felt cankered his soul

and an enemy to truth he became

he marshalled his ranks and fought with God

at last cast out to his eternal shame

But that was not to be the last of him

and those who shared his fate

cast down to earth they tempted mankind

eroding truth and fostering a love of hate

To mortals they taught the gospel of ruin

countless were they who believed

now rejecting what they had once upheld

like minions they rush to be deceived

Just like their father of lies

they love the darkness more than light

rather than walk in the sun at noon day

they hide their acts in the darkness of night

The devil delights in the misery of all

and the worship of sinners he craves

so there is no rest for the soldiers of sin

nor any of his devilish knaves

The darkness of evil swells as a storm

destroying the faith of mankind

for why now when darkness reigns

should the devil lurk behind

In open boldness he goes forth

the ranks of evil are great

and though their armies are a fearful sight

never in all time can they breach God’s gate

For the devil’s army is fighting in vain

their cause assured an ignominious end

for when the Lord comes in His glorious might

who among evil will successfully defend

Then with the wicked swept from the earth

in the dawn of millennial peace

the father of lies will reign no more

and sin among mankind will cease

When mankind will no longer hearken to him

nor give heed to his angels of death

when the Spirit unfettered enters into all

as if it were their breath
