MOTHER
A sacred gift is given
An eternal debt in place
The precious gift is life
The mother’s love is grace
The pattern formed then and there
Repeats itself again on earth
Each woman who offers herself here
Gives to others the sacred gift of birth
The sacrifice a mother makes
As she gives the gift of life
Is renewed throughout the years
As her child encounters strife
The worries never end for her
As she watches her child grow
Through thick or thin, good or bad
Joys and heartaches only a mother can know
Through it all as life recedes
As the mother nears the veil
The thing she desires the most
Is to see her child prevail
After the rigors of mortality expire
And there is no more pain to bear
After the Savior has dried all her tears
She wants to embrace her children there
For upon a throne of glory she reigns
Over the kingdom of her own
Her name held in blessed respect
And her posterity’s love is fully shown
