THE MONSTER MARY ANN
The monster Mary Ann
lives in a world of clay
where the sun always shines and it rains at night
and children love to play
No greater paradox exists
than the monster Mary Ann
who at times is both fair and good
but does cause fear as no other can
With hair of gold
and eyes of blue
but nostrils flared
and lips askew
With pointed ears
and breath of fire
but dimpled cheeks
which cause no ire
With skin as fair as softest silk
and voice pure as the sweetest brook
just beware her anger roused
and do avoid her look
Widespread is the fame of her
destruction abounds in her wake
terror strikes each childish heart
and none can sleep overtake
Run! Run! Get away
it’s the monster Mary Ann
quick, be quick, run for your life
she’ll catch you if she can
And if misfortune slows you down
and the monster takes you hers
remember that in Mary Ann
within her sweet goodness stirs
