SPRING WILL COME
frozen limbs
bending under the weight of snow
but with spring’s warmth
they will bud, blossom and grow
winter now
but spring will come
like all of nature
we have seasons too
while in the dead of winter
it is hard to bring spring to view
though now bent
your world torn apart
time and the Healer’s help
can mend the broken heart
winter now
but spring will come
the innocent are hurt
not their fault they feel the pain
the Savior’s blood was shed
to make them whole again
so weep if you will
there is no shame in your tears
for tears shed now
can water the seeds of happy years
the passion of your pain
amid betrayal, anger, and loss
spawns a torrent of emotion
that will one day be as dross
winter now
but spring will come
there is life yet to live
which may seem so lifeless now
but dark days will become brighter
and the pain will ease somehow
for there are those who love you
on both sides of the veil
not the least of which is Christ
who for you and yours did travail
He will not leave you comfortless
to bear your cross alone
for He knows your weight
He bore it to atone
I
so when the landscape of life
appears so frozen and bleak
think of that empty tomb
it is the season of spring you seek
and most assuredly
spring will come!
This was one of my first poems. A woman with whom I worked was devastated when her husband confessed infidelity and subsequently left her and her two small children. She was so emotionally broken that I wanted to help. I didn’t know how to help so I wrote this poem for her.
